Students from the Santerre group, would like to thank the IBBME Discovery program for allowing them to be involved in yet another enriching outreach experience. The IBBME Discovery program which was established in 2015, is a collaborative volunteering effort between graduate students and high school teachers from George Harvey Collegiate Institute and Western Technical Commercial School. The program helps to provide students with an immersive and iterative learning experience to tackle scientific questions similar to a capstone design project. The theme for the fall term was Humanizing Medicine: Engineering diagnostics and treatments for chronic diseases.
Israa and Jonathan were delighted to be a part of the experience, both teaching the students how to work in a wet lab space and helping with the daily programming of the student visits to the University of Toronto. At the symposium, held on January 8th, instructors and judges from the IBBME community watched as the students showcased what they had learned throughout the semester and what they investigated through their hard work. We hope the experience helps to give the students a taste of what STEM has to offer and look forward to seeing these budding scientists pursue their ambitions.
