This summer, IBBME launched an outreach program for students entering Grades 8 and 9 called iBEAM, or IBBME Biomedical Engineering and Me. The program was initiated by IBBME faculty member Penney Gilbert, who enlisted the help of IBBME grad students, including Santerre Lab members Yasaman and Meghan.
Yasaman and Meghan taught the students about engineering artificial blood vessels, and then challenged the students to create their own artificial vessels with biomedical polymers - all materials that they use everyday including a plastic bag, a piece of Spandex, and polyester.
Yasaman and Meghan show the students how to do a burst test with their home made artificial blood vessels.
